Hi everyone! I am thrilled to be serving the league as President this year along with our fantastic board. We hope to make this a fun and memorable year for your girls!
I am going to use this space to let you know about details for the season - please keep checking for updates!
Hard to believe that we are only a few weeks away from the end of the season! I hope all the girls have been having fun and have been making some new friends also. In addition to going to see the Stanford and Woodside HS girls softball teams play, the end of the season is a time to think about softball after the rec season and in how to make things better for next year. I am excited for the summer Wicked season which I think will be a great experience for the kids who are able to play in the league. Also, for those who don't want to wait until next spring to play more softball, we will send more info later about our Fall Ball program where girls can keep their skills up throughout the year. We are also always interested in feedback on how to make the season even better next year - please let us know!
There is a fantastic organization called the Miracle League which makes space for children with special needs to have a baseball experience. The signups for this is ongoing and I wanted to send you this information for anyone you might know who would want to participate in this great league. Please see the attached fliers here (in English) or here (in Spanish) for more information.
It's been so fun to watch the girls playing softball out there. I've seen rookies games, through seniors games and there are lots of smiles in the dugouts and lots of friends being made. Thanks to everyone for maintaining a flexible and positive environment for the girls - what a great community!
We've had great turnout at the pitching clinics and are soon going to be gearing up for Wicked, so please keep your eyes out for more information. Also, I'm excited to get RCGSL over to Stanford for a game - please sign up! We're always happy to hear feedback on how things are going, so don't hesitate to reach out to your division coordinators or me.
Thanks to everyone for bringing your enthusiasm, your energy and your positivity to the beginning of the season. We had a spectacular opening day and have already had two great weeks of softball! We'll be having more clinics coming up and a few fun outings to watch the Woodside High School team and the Stanford Team.
Thanks to everyone who came out for the Hit-a-thon and Picture Day last Saturday! It was wonderful to see the girls back out there, cheering each other on, having fun ... and trying to win an iPad! We are now a few days away from Opening Day and we hope all the teams are gearing up for what will be a great Ceremony followed by a great day of softball. All girls will get free food and ice cream and we'll have the San Jose Giants Mascot around to welcome the kids. Should be a great start to the season ... see you there!
Picture Day and Hit-a-thon is here! We're excited to see all the girls out on the field on Saturday to get their photos done and see how far they can hit the ball! We've had fantastic progress with the 99Pledges donations and all the money raised will continue to help keep fees low for the league and will help us invest in the season for the girls. A big 'Thank You' to all the girls raising money out there for RCGSL!
Just a bit over one week until we start games - opening day should be a fun day of softball, food, treats, and fun! Let's get this season started!
We're getting there! Thanks for your patience as we finalize all the last-minute details. We had a great 10U evaluations and many teams have started practicing which is fantastic! We have Picture Day/Hit-A-Thon coming up and we hope the kids can get donations from family and friends to get more chances to win prizes at the Hit-a-Thon! We also have coach training coming this Saturday as well as training on how to line fields (trust me, it isn't that bad in the end!). Hope to see you out there soon!
If you are new to softball, we definitely want all the girls to have their own glove, rubber cleats, and their own fielder's mask (see here for some pictures of what you need). While kids often like to have their own bats and helmets, the league has bats and helmets that can be used during practice and games. We are planning an equipment hand-me-down booth at the Picture Day for people to donate old, but in good condition, gloves, bats, cleats, and fielder's masks.
Your child will get a jersey and socks from the league and all kids will receive a free pair of softball pants from Goetz Brothers - just head over there and let them know you are with RCGSL!
RCGSL showed up exceptionally strong at the Peninsula League Fall Ball. A special thank you to all the dedicated coaches, parents and behind the scenes helpers for an outstanding Fall Ball season experience for all!
What a great season and an excellent learning opportunity for all the players as they gear up for Spring Ball. While they may not have placed they were ALL committed and focus throughout the season thanks to the coaches and parents!

The Senior RCGSL players was lead by Coach Kate who coordinated all the logistics to make sure the girls were provided a Fall Season since the Peninsula League was unable to have enough city teams with a Senior Division.
A Special Message from Coach Kate
“Redwood City fielded a 14U division team for the first time in several years, with girls from age 12 to 15, who toured the Peninsula, Coast Side and South Bay matching up against strong competition for development and excitement on the diamond. We had everything from first-ever sliding and diving back to base, to an over-the-fence grand slam. This team welcomed new and returning softball players and some home grown talent who have gone on to A level travel fast-pitch. The camaraderie and sportsmanship won the day for these lovely young women who made the coaching staff proud to lead the best of RCGSL.”
Founded in 2006, the Redwood City Girls Softball League is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), tax-exempt corporation whose purpose is to provide recreational and competitive fastpitch softball programs for girls ages 4-14. We serve Redwood City and surrounding communities of Atherton, Menlo Park, Portola Valley and Woodside.
Girls of any ability are welcome, and the main purpose is to teach/learn the great game of softball and have fun. Divisions are provided for recreational teams, intended for beginner to accomplished players, and also more competitive travel teams, intended for girls with above average ability and experience and/or players interested in taking their game to the next level in a more challenging and competitive environment.
